Borussia Dortmund will not be able to call upon Jadon Sancho as they looked to overturn a 2-1 Champions League quarter-final deficit against Manchester City.

The Bundesliga giants trail Pep Guardiola’s runaway Premier League leaders in the last-eight tie after Phil Foden’s last-gasp strike in the first leg that came after Marco Reus had cancelled out Kevin De Bruyne’s opening goal.

Sancho - who was absent from England duty for the start of 2022 World Cup qualifying - missed that initial clash against his former club due to a thigh injury that has kept him sidelined since he scored the winner in a 1-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in the German Cup quarter-finals on March 2.

There was hope that the 21-year-old could play some part in Wednesday’s return leg at Signal Iduna Park after Sancho joined in with Dortmund training on Sunday.

However, BVB and head coach Edin Terzic are eager not to rush his recovery.

“Jadon won’t be at our disposal,” Terzic confirmed on Tuesday. “He trained again, he is doing his best, we would like to have him available but he won’t be. We have to take our time with him.”

Not only will Dortmund be without Sancho once again, but there are now doubts surrounding the availability of two key senior players in Mats Hummels and Reus, both of whom went off injured in Saturday’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over Stuttgart.

"There are a few slightly injured. We will have to wait. Marco Reus and Mats Hummels needed to be substituted and leave the pitch on Saturday,” Terzic added.

"We have another training session and we will see who will be at our disposal."
