Yahoo Movies Donald Trump to launch new social media network called ‘Truth Social’
Donald Trump has announced plans to launch a new social media network called “Truth Social”.
Mr Trump says his goal in launching the Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) was to create a rival to the Big Tech companies.
“We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced,” he said in a statement.
“This is unacceptable.”
The former President was banned from Twitter and suspended from Facebook after his supporters stormed the US Capitol.
Social media companies were under pressure throughout Mr Trump’s presidency to ban him for insulting posts and peddling falsehoods.
A soft launch of the Truth Social app, is expected next month followed by a nationwide rollout early next year.
It is also planning a “non-woke” on-demand video service dubbed TMTG+ that will feature entertainment programming, news and podcasts.
On its website, TMTG names its competitors as Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Disney+ and CNN. It also suggests it will go head-to-head with Amazon, Microsoft, Google and Stripe.
Truth Social’s terms of service bar users from annoying any of the site’s employees and from statements that “disparage, tarnish, or otherwise harm, in our opinion, us and/or the Site.”
It was not immediately clear who the “us” in that statement refers to.
In a press release, the new venture announced it had been created through a merger with Digital World Acquisition Corp (DWA), and said it seeks to become a publicly listed company.
