If you're anything like us, then you will have spent the weekend glued to the sofa watching Lady Chatterley's Lover on repeat. The new Netflix film starring Emma Corin and Jack O'Connell dropped late last week (2nd December) and it's already been receiving rave reviews from fans.

Lady Chatterley's Lover is an adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel of the same name. In the film, a young woman named Connie (Emma Corin) appears to be set for life when she marries Sir Clifford Chatterley (Matthew Duckett). However, after an injury in World War I leaves Sir Clifford unable to walk, Connie soon feels trapped in her life at her husband's estate. There, she meets and falls in love with the gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors (Jack O'Connell). Their affair soon becomes the subject of village gossip and the pair must face a difficult decision about their relationship.

Though Lady Chatterley's Lover follows a similar plot to the D.H. Lawrence novel, there are some key differences between the two, mainly the ending of the film.

So what happens in the end of Lady Chatterley's Lover and how is it different to the book ending? This is everything you need to know.

How does Lady Chatterley's Lover end?

The Netflix movie wraps up the steamy love affair between Connie and Oliver in what appears to be a happy ending.

After the secret of her affair with Oliver is revealed, Connie asks her husband Sir Clifford for a divorce. However, he refuses to grant her one and sacks Oliver from his position as gamekeeper.

Connie travels to Venice with her sister, Hilda, and their father. There, she is growing steadily pregnant and finds it impossible to keep up with the stares and whispers from members of society.

Hilda and Connie return to London, where Hilda presents Connie with a letter from Oliver. In the letter Oliver reveals he has a new job in the Scottish Highlands and has made a home for himself there. He acknowledges the difficulty Connie has gone through and appears to invite Connie to come and live with him.

Connie is then seen travelling to find Oliver and the film ends with the pair embracing outside Oliver's new home.

How does the movie ending differ from the novel's ending?

Though the novel and the film follow a similar pattern towards the ending, there is one key difference - the novel ends on a cliff hanger.

In the book Connie is pregnant and living with her sister, her husband still refusing to give her a divorce. Oliver has a new job and is waiting for his divorce to be finalised.

Oliver sends Connie a letter, which contains his hope that the pair will end up together, however this is where the novel ends.

The reader never discovers if the pair end up together and is left in a very frustrating limbo.
