Dirt biker dragged down block after colliding with fire truck, Baltimore officials say

A man was killed Thursday when the dirt bike he was riding collided with a Baltimore city fire truck, multiple news outlet report.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Pratt and South Payson Street just before 7 p.m. as firefighters responded to reports of a fire in southwest Baltimore, according to WBAL-TV. The dirt bike rider dismounted his bike before crashing with the fire engine, authorities said, but he became trapped underneath.

Those who witnessed the crash said the truck “dragged the man halfway down the block” before it stopped, WJZ reported. Emergency crews had to extricate the man, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Baltimore Fire said no firefighters were injured, though the Critical Incident Stress Team was on scene to help members.

“Please pray for everyone involved and their families, #BMORESBravest and civilian,” the Baltimore Firefighters Union IAFF Local 734 wrote on Twitter. “This is a tragedy.”

Officials haven’t identified the biker who died.

Baltimore police are now investigating the crash. McClatchy News reached out to the department and was told an incident report wasn’t available at this time.

The Baltimore City Fire Department didn’t immediately return requests for comment.

The crash remains under investigation.
