Diners and restaurant staff were forced to flee from a fire in upmarket Belgravia on Thursday night.

Six staff and seven diners fled the fire on Pont Street before the Brigade were called at 10.40pm, sending around 60 firefighters.

Although the Brigade did not name the venue, pictures showed firefighters outside the Abd el Wahab Lebanese restaurant.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one woman and one man from the third floor of the building, which has flats on top.

Part of the basement of the building was damaged by fire and all of the extraction system from the basement to the roof level was destroyed in the blaze.

The fire was deemed under control by 2.09am on Friday.

Fire crews from Chelsea, Kensington, Soho and Lambeth, Euston, Chelsea and Fulham fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
