Denzel Washington Jokes That John David's Sister Is 'Coming for' Her Brother: She's 'a Great Young Actress'

Denzel Washington couldn't be prouder of his talented family of six.

The 66-year-old two-time Oscar winner called in to Good Morning America on Thursday to chat about his upcoming thriller The Little Things, and also opened up about his wife and four children who are, like him, all well-versed in the arts.

"I'm a dad so I'm gonna keep saying it: Olivia Washington is a great young actress. Very, very, very good young actress, so she's coming for her brother [actor John David Washington]," Denzel said of his younger daughter, 29.

"It's a team sport in our house," he continued of the family's involvement in the arts. "My wife [Pauletta Washington] was a child prodigy — concert pianist, Van Cliburn competitor and singer and actress. My daughter Katia is a producer — she produced Malcolm & Marie and Assassination Nation and others. My baby boy, Malcolm, is a director and a producer."

"Did I leave somebody out? Oh, and me!" the actor joked. "On The New York Times list, I'm No. 1. In my house, I'm No. 5," he joked. (In November, the Times named Denzel the "Greatest Actor of the 21st Century [So Far]").

John David, 36, recently opened up in an interview with WSJ. Magazine about how his famous father inspired him to pursue a career in acting.

While the Malcolm & Marie star said that he "always" wanted to act like his father, he noted that being in the shadow of the renowned Denzel didn't always make the feat easy.

"I jumped in and hid in this football persona, this athlete, literally putting on a helmet to hide my face, hide my identity," John David told the outlet, noting his brief NFL career.

Back in September, John David opened up to PEOPLE about Denzel and his mother Pauletta, 70, detailing how both his talented parents have inspired him throughout his life.

"Pauletta Washington gives me inspiration," he said of his mom. "That's my mother, the most consistent person in my life."

As for his famous father, John David called the Remember the Titans star his "favorite actor" and "the best actor in the industry."

"I'm inspired by the kind of career he's had and what he's had to do," he told PEOPLE. "Again, he's been on the frontline for many years and what he's done with it, with his opportunities, I just am so inspired and continue to be inspired by what he does and how he works and his approach to the craft and the business."

While speaking to Access last month, John David said "it's about time" Denzel received the recognition he got from the Times. "I think he is one of the greatest to ever do it so it was a very proud moment for our entire family," he said about his dad.

"Wow. I'm speechless," a teary-eyed Denzel said after Access' Sibley Scoles read him the quote earlier this month. "I forgot what the question was but I'm speechless. I didn't know he said that."

The proud father then added, "Watch out for his sister. His sister is a great actor. Olivia Washington."

The Little Things premieres Friday in select theaters and on HBO Max.
