Returns on CC-rated debt, two rungs above D - meaning in default, have surged nearly 48% this year, a far cry from 83% in 2016 but nearly three times higher than last year, according to data from Morningstar Direct. In comparison, investment-grade credit has generated returns between 3% and 5% this year, while other junk bond tiers have yielded returns between 7% and 15%.

Equinor, BP, TotalEnergies seal investment into Britain's carbon capture projects
Norway's Equinor alongside partners BP and TotalEnergies, have taken the final investment decision for two of the Britain's first carbon capture and storage projects in northern England, they said on Tuesday. The three companies are joint partners in the Northern Endurance Partnership Project (NEP) which will permanently store up to an initial 4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year. Equinor has a 45% stake in NEP, with BP also holding 45% and TotalEnergies the remaining 10%.
