In the world of headphones, the latest trend is true wireless earbuds. The Samsung Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ are top-notch options in this realm, and they are both being offered at a pretty great discount from Best Buy: $50 off the Galaxy Buds at just $79.99 and $40 off the Galaxy Buds+ for $109.99.

True wireless earbuds in general are super convenient. Individual buds pop into each ear and connect seamlessly and wirelessly to your smartphone so you can listen to music, podcasts, or other audio completely free of wires. When done, pop them into their charging case and they'll get a battery boost for the next listening session.

The Galaxy Buds can run for up to 13 hours (six per charge plus an additional seven with the charging case) and offer enveloping bass and adaptive dual mics that help enhance the clarity of speech when you're using them for phone calls, even when in a noisy environment.

But for the ultimate in sound quality, you'll want to fork over the extra $30 for the Galaxy Buds+. They offer premium sound via technology from AKG, a professional acoustics company that makes and engineers high-quality audio equipment in the professional space. This results in crisp and high notes, deep bass, and overall full-bodied sound, achieved through a woofer and tweeter in each bud. We chose them over the classic Apple AirPods in our tests, loving the sound quality, minimalist and intuitive Samsung Wearables app, and long battery life of 22 hours total with the charging case (11 hours per charge plus an additional 11 with the case). Keep in mind that they don't work with older model phones, so if you have been hanging on to your Galaxy smartphone from a decade ago, double-check compatibility before taking the plunge.

The advanced technologies in the Galaxy Buds+ don't stop there! They have one internal and two external mics for better picking up your voice and isolating it from outside sounds so you can talk in even the noisiest of locations, like a busy subway station, street, or crowded mall. Using the Ambient Aware mode, you can let in outside sounds as needed, such as when an announcement is coming through the PA, someone is trying to talk to you, or you reach a crosswalk and want to hear traffic.

The Buds+ are also compatible with virtual assistants like Bixby (Samsung's own virtual assistant) and Alexa for voice control. Alternatively, you can control playback right from the buds through taps and custom shortcuts: tap once, for example, to pause the music, or long-press to open Spotify. Seamlessly control them from other compatible Galaxy devices, too, including smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches. With Wireless PowerShare, you can place the buds atop a compatible Samsung Galaxy device, like the new Galaxy Note20, to recharge them. Neat!

Both the Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ are IPX2 splash-resistant and compatible with both Android and iOS devices. They also both come with three pairs of eartips and wing tips to ensure a secure fit in any sized ear, along with a charging case. In both cases, if you need a quick boost before you head out for a run or to the gym, you can pop them into the charging case to get one. Charge the Buds for 15 minutes to get 1.7 hours of use in a pinch, or the Buds+ for just three minutes to get up to an hour—just enough for your daily workout or commute to the office.

Both the Samsung Galaxy Buds and Galaxy Buds+ are great entries into the true wireless realm, and this deal will save you a few bucks on a good pair that are a perfect complement to a Samsung Galaxy or other Android smartphone (though they do, as noted, also work with iOS devices using the Samsung Wearables app). For $40 more, the Buds+ offer a ton of additional features that make them worth the extra dough. But if you don't need all of those bells & whistles, the Buds might do you just fine.
