Deadpool Had To Ditch Amy Winehouse Joke

Deadpool might be a lot of things… but disrespectful of one of the greatest jazz singers the UK has ever produced is not one of them.

According to reports, a pretty on-the-edge joke about Amy Winehouse had to be removed from the movie’s original script.

It’s worth qualifying that the original iteration of the script was written way back in 2010, before the singer’s tragic death at the age of 27 from alcohol poisoning in 2011.

Movie site Mr Sunday Movies discovered that the joke would have involved Winehouse being run over by a bus in the first draft of the movie, during the end credits.

Deadpool would then have quipped: “And you would have thought it would be an overdose.”

Rightly, this was taken out in 2011.

It was among many changes made to the movie over the years.

Other changes include a montage of grusome suicide attempts by Ryan Reynolds’ mercenary Wade Wilson after he is horribly scarred, a la ‘Groundhog Day’.

Also, due to budget cuts on the movie, two major action scenes were axed too, one being an extension of the highway sequence between Ajax and Deadpool, involving a motorcycle chase and a house being transported on the back of a lorry, and another extended the finale into a building, in the style of hit action movie 'The Raid’.

Still, the movie’s done pretty well thus far, better than any analysts even expected, and many expected a lot.

Its worldwide haul currently stands over $512 million (about £368 million).
