Dashcam shows car catapult into air after being hit by a detached tire on highway

A Tesla driver captured the moment a pickup truck’s tire detached and hit another car, causing it to fly into the air on a California highway, media outlets reported.

Dashcam footage from a Tesla showed the pickup truck’s tire detaching and shooting under a Kia Soul on California State Route 118 in Chatsworth on March 23, according to KTLA.

The video posted by Twitter user Anoop Khatra, which has amassed over 16 million views as of March 27, shows the truck’s front left tire coming loose and striking the Kia.

Video shows the Kia skyrocketing and flipping upside down before landing. The detached tire is seen rolling down the highway until making an abrupt stop after hitting the crashed Kia.

The pickup truck, missing its tire, skidded down the highway.

The Los Angeles Police Department said there were no major injuries, according to FOX 6.

“Sheared off-lug nuts apparently led to the pickup truck’s tire detachment,” according to KABC.

McClatchy News reached out to the California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles Police Department on March 27 and is awaiting a response.

Chatsworth is about 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
