Dartmouth football coach Buddy Teevens has been hospitalized following a bicycle accident on Thursday, the Ivy League university announced.

In a statement shared Sunday on Twitter, Dartmouth College said Teevens, an "avid cyclist," was "riding his bicycle when it was involved in a collision" in St. Augustine, Florida, where the Teevens family owns a home.

Teevens' wife, Kirsten, told local Valley News that her husband "sustained serious injuries" after he was hit by a car as the couple was biking home from a restaurant. He was not wearing a helmet, according to a crash report obtained by the outlet.

Kirsten Teevens didn't detail the extent of her husband's injuries, but she told Valley News that she's hopeful "he will have a full recovery."

USA TODAY Sports reached out to the Florida Highway Patrol for comment.

Teevens played quarterback at Dartmouth from 1975 to 1978 before leading the team to two Ivy League championships as head coach from 1987 to 1991. He had head coaching stints at Tulane and Stanford before retuning to Dartmouth in 2005.

Teevens was named the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2021.

"Thoughts and prayers are with Coach Teevens and his family. I have known Coach since I was 12 years old when I attended Tulane football camp," Hall of Fame quarterback Eli Manning tweeted on Sunday. "There is not a better man."
