Darius Campbell Danesh’s ex-wife has paid an emotional tribute to the late Pop Idol and theatre star as the world of showbiz reeled from his death.

Actress Natasha Henstridge shared pictures of the two of them on Instagram in a since-deleted post, and wrote: “‘I have found the paradox that if you love until it hurts there can be no more hurt — only more love’, Mother Theresa. There are no words Darius… only Love Love Love. Forever Janam.”

The Canadian star, whose films include Species, and the Scottish singer got together after bumping into each other on Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard and were married from 2011 to 2018.

Tributes have flowed in for Campbell Danesh, 41, after his family revealed on Monday he had been found dead in his apartment in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11. His cause of death is unknown. Police said there were “no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances”, as they await toxicology reports.

Campbell Danesh appeared on ITV’s Popstars in 2001, making a splash with his interpretation of Britney Spears’ Baby One More Time. He had more success on Pop Idol, coming third behind Gareth Gates and Will Young — and topped the UK charts in 2002 with Colourblind.

Former Pop Idol judge Simon Cowell said: “He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with. His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends.”

Campbell Danesh went on to roles in musicals, including West End productions of Chicago and Guys and Dolls, and starred as Rhett Butler in a musical adaptation of Gone With the Wind.

Gareth Gates was among those paying tribute. The 38-year-old wrote on Instagram: “I can’t quite believe the news of my dear friend Darius passing. I’m heartbroken... He was one of the most beautiful, intelligent and gentle souls I was lucky enough to know, a soul that lit up every room.”
