Daniel Radcliffe Reveals He’s Friends With Racists

It seems Daniel Radcliffe didn’t have to surround himself with white supremacists for his latest role because, according to the man himself, he already knows plenty of racists.

Radcliffe looks set to finally shed his squeaky clean Harry Potter image in ‘Imperium’, where he plays an undercover FBI agent who goes undercover within a Nazi terrorist organisation.

But in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the former child star said he didn’t have to do a whole lot of research as a lot of his current friends are racist.

When asked if he had to meet any supremacists to prepare for the role, Radcliffe revealed it wasn’t entirely necessary.

“No, but I know some really f***ing racist people, friends I vehemently disagree with. They’re not white supremacists, they would never be that extreme, but they are anti-immigration and absolutely voted to leave in Brexit.”

We’re glad he clarified he’s not pals with actual supremacists, but it seems his circle of friends adhere to the increasingly outspoken number of Brits that publicly indulge in casual racism and xenophobia.

We’re not sure we’d perhaps keep the same company, but it appears to have helped him understand his latest role that little bit better.

“And I’m still friends with them because I don’t think that friendship should be drawn along those lines. That’d be a really sad way of viewing the world. But yeah, I definitely have got first-hand experience with this.”

It’s interesting the high-profile actor should reveal the type of people he knows so openly, but it’s also a shame that people are willing to overlook such views held by friends (and even family members).

The actor also berated one London cabbie after they shared their unsavoury view with him.

“Some of the most unbelievably racist s**t I’ve ever heard came out of a cab driver’s mouth in London, and you just go, “Dude, you’re taking a chance. I know I’m white, but you can’t just assume that I’m gonna agree with you.”‘

The ‘first-hand experience’ Radcliffe speaks of has likely aided his prep for the hard-hitting role so it’ll be fascinating to see the 27-year-old portray a cop posing as a racist next month when the film lands.

‘Imperium’ is released in UK cinemas on 16 September.
