Amazon earnings: AWS in focus after Big Tech cloud misses
Amazon (AMZN) reports fourth quarter results after the bell on Thursday. CFRA Research senior equity research analyst Arun Sundaram joins Catalysts with Seana Smith and Madison Mills to discuss what to watch when the tech giant releases earnings. "The setup is positive for Amazon," Sundaram explains."Their e-commerce business should have done really well, given that all indications were that we had a strong holiday season, especially for e-commerce retailers ... I'm also not worried about the bottom line either." "Investors tend to focus more on [Amazon Web Services] AWS and their cloud business," the analyst says, noting that "19% AWS growth ... would represent stable growth from Q3 and Q2 of 2024," which would be especially positive given the misses seen in Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) and Microsoft's (MSFT) respective cloud segments. Sundaram notes that another risk to Amazon's post-earnings stock reaction is if the company announces higher-than-expected capital spending. "If CapEx is higher than consensus especially, then it could lead to a sell-off like we saw with Microsoft and Google." Snake Catcher Interrupts 'Beautiful' Lizard's Glamorous Posing in Chicken Coop
An Australian snake catcher was almost bitten as he interrupted a “beautiful” lace monitor as it basked on the side of a chicken coop, arrayed in a striking pose. This footage from Stuart McKenzie of Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 shows him removing a lace monitor (aka a tree goanna) from a small chicken coop, and almost getting bitten in the process. The footage also shows McKenzie freeing the lizard back into the wild.“Beautiful, healthy lace monitor, needs to stop eating chicken eggs I think,” McKenzie said while holding the animal in the footage after having successfully removed it from the coop.
