Queer is adapted from the 1985 novel of the same name by William S Burroughs, and follows Craig’s expat character William Lee as he develops an infatuation with the younger Gene Allterton (Drew Starkey) in Mexico City.
The movie sees Guadagnino re-team with Challengers writer Justin Kuritzkes, and also stars Asteroid City’s Jason Schwartzman and The Crown’s Lesley Manville.
Craig recently opened up about filming sex scenes for the movie, explaining that he wanted them to feel “real and natural”.

“You know as well as I do, there’s nothing intimate about filming a sex scene on a movie set,” he said upon the movie’s premiere last month. “There’s a room full of people watching you. We just wanted to make it as touching and as real and as natural as we possibly could.
“Drew is a wonderful, fantastic [and] beautiful actor to work with. We kind of had a laugh - we tried to make it fun.”
Revealing how he became involved in the project, the star added: “We [Guadagnino and I] met 20 years ago and said, ‘Hey, we want to work together,’ and we finally did.
“If I wasn’t in this movie and I saw this movie, I’d want to be in it. It’s the kind of film I want to see [and] make - I want it to be out there.”
Queer is yet to confirm an official release date. The movie will have its UK premiere at the BFI London Film Festival.
