Daniel Cormier doesn’t think move to Jackson Wink MMA will help Tony Ferguson: ‘His time has passed’

Tony Ferguson is looking to join a new team, but Daniel Cormier doesn’t expect it to change much.

Ferguson (25-7 MMA, 15-5 UFC) is enduring a rough patch in his career with four straight losses. He was seen training at Jackson Wink MMA, as well as with famed boxing coach Freddie Roach this week.

The 38-year-old still is looking to return to top form. He once won 12 straight en route to the UFC interim lightweight title. While Cormier admires Ferguson’s persistence, he doesn’t think “El Cucuy” has it in him anymore.

“Man, this is a bit of a tough one, right? Because I tap in on him chasing down that past greatness,” Cormier said on his ESPN show “DC & RC.” “I just don’t know if there’s any more of that. I just believe that we all have a time. We all have a time, and I believe that time’s gone. I don’t believe that much is going to change for Tony Ferguson with the camp change. I just believe that his time has passed, and no camp change is going to change that.”

Ferguson is coming off a brutal knockout loss to Michael Chandler at UFC 274 in May. His three losses prior to that also came to elite-level competition in top contender Beneil Dariush, former UFC lightweight champ Charles Oliveira and ex-interim champ Justin Gaethje.
