Cowboys coach on Micah Parsons winning Defensive Player of the Month: ‘Rightfully deserved’
Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month on Thursday.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy had this say on Parsons winning the award.
“Rightfully deserved. I think he was definitely defensive player of the year of training camp too. So he’s really stepped it up. I’m very very pleased with the way Micah has attacked the season so far,” said McCarthy
This is the first time Parsons has won the award in his three-year NFL career, Parsons was previously named player of the week after his performance against the New York Jets this season.
Parsons has 12 tackles, five tackles for loss, four sacks, one pass defended and one forced fumble and fumble recovery.
Parsons has been double-teamed 33% of the time but still leads the NFL in Pass Rush Win Rate at 40%. Pass Rush Win Rate measures how often a pass rusher is able to beat his block within 2.5 seconds.
Parsons also has the second-most sacks in the NFC after Minnesota Vikings defensive end Danielle Hunter.
This is the start to the season that many expected of Parsons as he is the odds-on favorite to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year this season.
