Cycling legends Jason and Laura Kenny receive honours after winning 12 gold medals between them

Olympic cycling legends Jason and Laura Kenny have been knighted and made a dame respectively at Windsor Castle after winning 12 gold medals between them.

The married couple were among current and former Team GB legends who received honours on Tuesday at Windsor Castle for their services to cycling.

Sir Jason is Team GB's most decorated Olympian, having won nine medals - seven of them gold - when he starred in Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. Dame Laura is a five-time gold medallist.

An investiture is the day when someone who has been awarded an honour received it in person from the Queen or a member of the royal family.

It comes after the pair, who starred in the 2020 Tokyo, 2016 Rio and 2008 Beijing Olympics, suffered from a miscarriage last year due to an ectopic pregnancy.

Nitin Ganatra who played Masood Ahmed in the BBC soap EastEnders was made an OBE for services to acting by the Duke of Cambridge.

Swimmer Kathleen Dawson, former Team GB hockey captain Barry Middleton and triathlete Alexander Yee were made MBEs for their contributions to their respective sports.

Dawson and her team won gold for 4x100m mixed medley relay at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in a world record time of 3 minutes 37.58 seconds.

Yee and his teammates won gold at the triathlon mixed relay event at Tokyo 2020 and he also won silver in the solo men's triathlon at the same time.

Middleton was England and Team GB's most-capped player when he announced his retirement from international hockey in April 2019, having played 432 games for England and Team GB during his 16-year career and having scored 119 goals.
