How curvy model Iskra Lawrence is making the wedding world more body positive

Iskra Lawrence has already taken the casual clothing world by storm with her body positive and unretouched ad campaigns for Aerie. Now, the curvy model is making moves and impacting the wedding industry too as the new face of a bridal fashion campaign for Justin Alexander.

“I had my own trials and tribulations with body image,” says British model, Lawrence in the brand’s press release. “I had gone through a lot starting from my teenage years. It was definitely freedom to put my real self out there.” But now, she’s not afraid to embrace her figure, having worn a high-slit dress at the SAG awards and revealing, glitzy jumpsuit at the Grammys last weekend.

Lawrence’s body confidence, attitude, and advocacy made her a natural choice for the brand’s #BeYou initiative, president and co-creative director Justin Alexander Warshaw tells Yahoo Lifestyle. “Iskra is incredibly inspirational and authentic. She regularly posts positive words on Instagram and is always engaging with her audience, encouraging her female followers to be confident and happy with themselves. This messaging is very in line with Justin Alexander and strongly resonates with our audience, making Iskra a great partner of the brand,” he shares.

The #BeYou campaign features Lawrence wearing a series of the designer’s gorgeous wedding gowns in a-line silhouettes to mermaid and trumpet styles. They vary from minimal, traditional and classic to ornate and lavish featuring long trains and intricate beaded embroideries.

“One of our core brand pillars is inclusivity, to design dresses that look great on real women. We want our brides to feel confident and comfortable in a dress that makes them shine,” says Warshaw, who hopes to empower brides everywhere to embrace their size, shape, and style through his work and, in particular, this campaign.

Warshaw and his team are not only making fashionable dresses for brides who are a size 2 or a size 32, but also make sure that there are no up-charges as other brands often do for larger sized dresses.
