'Crimson Peak' Trailer: A Very Bloody Romance for Tom Hiddleston and Mia Wasikowska

Pan’s Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro resumes his fascination with secretive, supernatural underground lairs with his upcoming period horror flick, Crimson Peak.

In this first full trailer for the film, the Mexican director shows off both his flair for creepy visuals and his all-star cast. Alice in Wonderland’s Mia Wasikowska plays Edith Cushing, a young author who falls for — and quickly — marries a handsome and very wealthy nobleman named Sir Thomas Sharpe, played by noted swoon-inducer Tom Hiddleston. But as Edith finds out after moving into Sharpe’s gigantic, demon-filled estate, her new husband isn’t everything he claims to be.

This puts her at great peril — not just from the “living” house, but also from Lady Lucille Sharpe (Jessica Chastain), Thomas’s very unforgiving sister. Mysterious screams, self-locking doors, blood flowing like water from bathtubs and disembodied arms are but a small selection of the horrors she faces in her new abode, which seems to want to make her a permanent resident.

By the way, Crimson Peak isn’t the only spooky-dwelling movie on del Toro’s slate: He’s expected to direct a movie based on Disney’s Haunted Mansion ride starring Ryan Gosling.

Crimson Peak hits theaters on October 16, just a few weeks before Halloween.
