Rauw Alejandro releases song dedicated to Rosalía following split: Revisit their love story

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro have called it quits on their yearslong romance.

The Spanish singer-songwriter and Puerto Rican reggaeton star, who first publicized their relationship in September 2021, revealed they called off their engagement "a couple months back" when Alejandro addressed the couple's breakup in a lengthy post on social media.

"During all these years you all have been a part of my professional accomplishments, as well as happy moments that I've lived with my (Rosalía)," he wrote on Instagram, adding he "never thought" he'd be "in the position to make public declarations over something as private as this."

While the "Saturno" singer refrained from specifying the cause of their breakup, he did push back against "erroneous public allegations" of infidelity that had been swirling on social media.

Alejandro further addressed his breakup with Rosalía on the emotional ballad "Hayami Hana," released a couple of weeks after he confirmed the couple's split.

With references to his ex’s albums "Los Ángeles" and "Motomami," Alejandro praised Rosalía’s unique talent and alluded to how their busy professional lives impacted their relationship. "The life we live isn’t for everyone: the press, social media, peer pressure, being far from each other is the hardest," Alejandro sings in Spanish. "We work nonstop, but to what end?"

The song's confessional lyrics also saw Alejandro further refute speculation he cheated on Rosalía ("she always had the password to my cellphone"), as well as detailing his gratitude for the couple's relationship.

"I hope that one day we can laugh at the past," Alejandro sings. "There’s no resentment here. This isn’t a complaint. You’ve given me the best days."

During the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April 2023, Rosalía brought out then-fiancé Alejandro as her special guest. After playing several of her hits, the Catalan singer ushered in Alejandro to adoring screams from the crowd.

The couple played reggaeton banger "Vampiros," featuring raunchy dancing that drew swoons from the crowd, and love song "Beso," both taken from the pair's "RR" EP. Tears welled in Rosalía’s eyes as she finished the latter song with Alejandro across from her.

Rosalía and Alejandro revealed their plans to head down the aisle in the music video for "Beso," the opening track on their joint project "RR," which was released in March 2023 alongside the EP.

The video features numerous home movie-style clips of the couple spending time together while traveling and in the studio. The final scene of the video shows a teary-eyed Rosalía wearing a sparkling ring on her finger and holding a red ring box in her hand.

"Oh my god," Rosalía said to Alejandro in the clip, in Spanish. "I love you."

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro put their power couple status on the record with the release of "RR," a three-song EP that solidified their undeniable harmony.

Although the two had contributed to each other's past projects – Alejandro’s "Afrodisíaco" and Rosalía’s "Motomami" – "RR" marked the pair’s first joint studio effort. The couple announced the EP's release with an Instagram post that featured the project's paint-based cover art, a pair of black Rs intertwined against a red backdrop.

"RЯ 24/(march)," the couple captioned the post in Spanish.

The couple teased the EP with an affectionate TikTok video, which showed Rosalía and Alejandro snuggled up to each other while mouthing the lyrics to the "RR" track "Beso."

Rosalía and Alejandro made an epic date night of the 2022 Latin Grammys, with Rosalía clinching album of the year for her third album "Motomami" and Alejandro enjoying major nominations for record of the year, song of the year and best reggaeton performance.

The two kicked off the night with a stylish splash on the red carpet, posing side by side in sleek black ensembles. Alejandro then made a cameo in Rosalía’s performance of her mambo-infused hit "Despechá," dancing with his girlfriend in the front row. Rosalía even gave Alejandro a shoutout during her acceptance speech for album of the year.

After the show, Rosalía shared a photo of her and Alejandro on Instagram and gushed about how "this year (was) more special than ever because I'm sharing it with the love of my life."

Ahead of their appearance at the 2022 Latin Grammys, Rosalía sat down with Borja Voces of the news program "Primer Impacto" in November 2022 and opened up about her relationship.

"The truth is it’s not easy because his schedule is also very complicated, but I think we always find a way," Rosalía said in Spanish. "When it’s not him traveling to where I am, it’s me traveling to where he is. We set aside some days for ourselves, and when we’re not working, we don’t work."

Rosalía and Alejandro went public with their relationship in September 2021, first teasing their romantic pairing with a dance video on TikTok. In the video, Rosalía can be seen twirling around Alejandro, as well as making a heart shape with their arms.

The lovebirds kept the online PDA going on Rosalía’s 29th birthday, with Rosalía posting a series of celebratory photos on Instagram, including a selfie with Alejandro that showed her lying on the "Saturno" singer’s lap while he appeared to play video games.

Following months of exchanging Instagram DMs, Rosalía and Alejandro met for the first time during the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas.

"I'm not going to lie, I was nervous," Alejandro told Billboard of the encounter, adding that it was love at first sight. "Rosí came down and I saw her, (and) I got even more nervous."

Rosalía chimed in on the instant chemistry. "From the time I heard your name," she said, agreeing that it was love at first sight.

Born Rosalía Vila Tobella in Sant Cugat del Vallès, Spain, Rosalía made her musical debut with 2017's "Los Ángeles," a folk-driven album that earned the flamenco-trained vocalist a nomination for best new artist at the 2017 Latin Grammys.

Born Raúl Alejandro Ocasio Ruiz in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Rauw Alejandro burst onto the scene with the release of 2019’s "Trap Cake, Vol. 1" and 2020’s "Afrodisíaco," the latter peaking at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart and earning the reggaetonero a Latin Grammy for best urban fusion/performance in 2021.

Alejandro's second album, 2021’s "Vice Versa," was certified eight times platinum and scored him Latin Grammy nods for record and song of the year, thanks to the album’s No. 1 hit "Todo de Ti." The Latin trap-heavy EP "Trap Cake, Vol. 2” followed in February 2022.
