COVID closes Boise restaurant, nearby bar: ‘We hate this. See you in a week’

A downtown Boise restaurant and its sister bar have closed temporarily.

The doors are locked at Manfred’s Kitchen, 1114 W. Front St., and Manfred’s Pub, across the parking lot at 1108 W. Front St.

“Super bummed about this,” Manfred’s wrote Jan. 25 on Facebook. “Hang tight until we isolate for a while. Stay safe, wear a mask.” Below the post is an image containing the message: “We are temporarily closed due to virus exposure. We hate this. See you in a week.”

A handwritten “Sorry folks” note also was hung on the door of each business informing customers of the COVID-19 setback, which it refers to as “the plague.”

The positive news? “See you next week with a new menu,” it promises.

Opened in 2016 with a focus on catering and takeout sandwiches, Manfred’s Kitchen developed a clientele also attracted to Woodland Empire Ale Craft, a local brewery in the same building.

Manfred’s Pub opened in late 2021 across the parking lot from Manfred’s Kitchen.

Manfred’s expanded its brand in late 2021 by opening Manfred’s Pub in the former Doc’s Lodge bar — a pickle’s toss away. Customers enter through the back door. The pub serves the restaurant’s full menu of comfort food, plus pub snacks.

Both Manfred’s businesses’ normal hours are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 5-9 p.m. Saturday.
