Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street's Michael Bailey will experience racism at the hands of a police officer amid the soap's systemic racism storyline.

In new scenes set to air next week, Aggie will be left unhappy after Michael invites a pregnant Grace to move in with the family.

Revealing to Ed that she is worried about Michael proposing to Grace again, she later takes the opportunity to tell Grace that Michael is better off without her when she gets a moment alone with her.

Grace rushes out after the row, before Michael returns home and finds out that Aggie gave her marching orders, and runs out after her.

However, he is then stopped by a police officer, who questions him about a robbery. Grace then sees what is happening and heads back, accusing the officer of racism, and the policeman lets Michael go.

Later on, Michael pleads with Grace to hear him out and returns home to tell Aggie that Grace is moving in whether she likes it or not, before his mother reluctantly backs down.

Speaking last year about the systemic racism storyline, producer Iain MacLeod explained: "We're doing a slow-burn exploration of systemic racism.

"Obviously we touched upon that subject area with verbal racism earlier in 2020, but we'll now be playing out a more long-form exploration of system racism, which is of the more insidious and almost subliminal form.

"Rather than overt name-calling, it's more the kind of things that our actors have told us they've experienced in their day-to-day lives – unconscious bias and systemic racism."

Coronation Street airs these scenes on Monday, January 25 at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
