Conte continues Tuchel feud with cheeky Instagram dig: ‘Making you trip over would have been well deserved’

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has continued his feud with Chelsea counterpart Thomas Tuchel after tempers repeatedly flared during Sunday’s eventful London derby meeting.

An electric Premier League affair at Stamford Bridge finished all square at 2-2 after a last-gasp equaliser from Harry Kane, but the contest was most notable for multiple clashes between the respective managers.

Conte and Tuchel first squared up after the latter seemed to take exception to his rival’s passionate celebrations when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s 68th-minute low arrowed strike - which Chelsea felt should not have been given following a strong challenge on Kai Havertz by Rodrigo Bentancur and an offside Richarlison debatably being in goalkeeper Edouard Mendy’s line of vision - cancelled out a first-half opener by Kalidou Koulibaly.

Worse was to come after the final whistle, with Chelsea fuming after Kane’s equaliser stood despite Cristian Romero yanking back Marc Cucurella by the hair as the duo jostled for position at a corner.

Both head coaches were shown red cards by referee Anthony Taylor after the second melee, which was sparked by Tuchel not letting go of Conte’s post-match handshake as he felt angered that the Italian did not look him in the eyes.

On a day of high emotion at the Bridge, yet another flashpoint could have occurred when Tuchel sprinted down the touchline after Reece James’ strike 13 minutes from time had restored Chelsea’s narrow advantage.

Addressing that celebration with a cheeky late-night social media post on Sunday night, Conte wrote on his official Instagram account followed by three laughing emojis: “Lucky I didn’t see you... making you trip over would have been well deserved.”

Those red cards mean Tuchel and Conte are both now facing one-match touchline bans and likely fines, with Chelsea travelling to Leeds next Sunday for what is sure to be another fiery clash and Tottenham hosting Wolves in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.
