Confirmed: Cadillac Is Building an Escalade V and It Sounds Like It'll Have a V-8

Despite being one of Cadillac's most popular models, the Escalade has never been offered in a high-performance V variant. But with competitors from BMW M and Mercedes-AMG raking up sales, it only made sense for Cadillac's full-size SUV to join the performance truck game. Now, it's finally official.

Cadillac announced Thursday its plans to reveal a high-performance Escalade V on January 21, 2022. In a video from the manufacturer embedded above, we can see the vehicle's headlights overlaid with a sound of its exhaust. To the surprise of no one, the Escalade V will almost definitely have a V-8 of some kind. Though that's about all we know for sure right now.

While Cadillac has yet to release any details on the Escalade V, we can make some educated guesses as to what sorts of upgrades the high-performance trim will have. A sportier suspension, bigger brakes, and sticker tires are a given. There will probably also be unique front and rear fascias, and V-specific wheels. As for the powertrain, we expect the Escalade V to get the same 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 currently found in the CT5-V Blackwing. Whether it'll make the same 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque isn't clear. And while the CT5 is available with a proper six-speed manual, we doubt that'll be the case for the Escalade V.

Nevertheless, we won't have to wait long to learn more about the Escalade V, as a full reveal is expected soon.
