CMS moves to remote learning Friday

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools will switch to remote learning for Friday.

The district announced that Before School and After School Enrichment programs will be closed Friday, and athletics and extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday will be postponed and rescheduled.

With winter weather advisories in Union and Cabarrus counties, rain and then a switch to a 30% chance of snow and freezing rain before 7 a.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service, local school districts changed up schedules for Friday.

Half an inch of snow is possible Friday in Mecklenburg and surrounding counties, including York County in South Carolina, forecasters say.

Cabarrus County Schools: The district announced on Twitter that Friday will be a remote learning day for all students.

Gaston County Schools: The district announced on Twitter that Friday will be a remote learning day for all students and teachers. The forecast for snow overnight, temperatures falling below freezing in the early morning, and the possibility of precipitation freezing on the roads “are significant concerns,” officials said.

Iredell-Statesville Schools: The district will operate on a three-hour delay for students and staff on Friday. Staff should refer to Inclement Weather Call #6.

Union County Public Schools: As a safety precaution, the district is closing schools for students Friday. No virtual instruction will take place. In addition, all school activities are canceled on Friday, including athletics, the after school program and practices.
