A closer look at betting lines, trends for Clemson vs. NC State football game

Clemson football is a single-digit favorite against N.C. State for the first time in over a decade entering Saturday night’s matchup of AP Top 10 teams.

And so far, the betting public likes the Wolfpack’s chances to cover as a consensus 6.5-point underdog, according to VegasInsider.

N.C. State — which defeated Clemson as a 10.5-point underdog last season — has picked up 60% of the bets and 67% of the money on bets against the spread as of Wednesday, per VegasInsider. That means more than half of those bettors believe the Wolfpack will stay within six points (or win) on Saturday.

Clemson’s 6.5-point spread is its lowest against N.C. State since 2011, when the No. 7 Tigers traveled to Raleigh as a 6.5-point favorite but lost 37-13 to the Wolfpack.

The Tigers won eight-straight series games against their ACC Atlantic Division opponent after that loss, never dipping below 10-point favorite status despite the Wolfpack twice entering such games ranked in the AP Top 25.

Clemson’s streak of eight-straight series wins ended last year in Raleigh, as the Tigers fell to unranked N.C. State 27-21 in double overtime as a 10.5-point favorite.

N.C. State is 3-1 against the spread this season, and Clemson is 2-2.

When it comes to money line (or straight-up win-loss bets), the Tigers are getting more love with 73% of the bets, per VegasInsider. Clemson is -250 on the money line, meaning you’d have to bet $250 on a Clemson victory in order to win another $100.

Pending any Hurricane Ian-related changes, Clemson and N.C. State are set for a 7:30 p.m. Saturday night kickoff from Memorial Stadium on ABC. ABC’s Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit and Holly Rowe will call the game.

N.C. State wide receiver Devin Carter (88) makes the 22-yard touchdown reception in the second overtime as Clemson cornerback Sheridan Jones (6) defends during N.C. State’s 27-21 overtime victory over Clemson at Carter-Finley Stadium in Raleigh, N.C., Saturday, Sept. 25, 2021.
