Argentina says it will withdraw from the World Health Organization, echoing Trump
Argentina's president has ordered the country's withdrawal from the World Health Organization due to “profound differences” with the U.N. agency, a presidential spokesperson said Wednesday. President Javier Milei's decision echoes that of his ally, U.S. President Donald Trump, who began the process of pulling the United States out of WHO with an executive order on his first day back in office on Jan. 21. The loss of another member country will further fracture cooperation in global health, though Argentina was expected to provide only about $8 million to WHO for the agency’s estimated $6.9 billion 2024-2025 budget.

Families of Nottingham attack victims say new review shows killer should face murder retrial
The families of the victims of the Nottingham attacks have said the killer should face a retrial on a murder charge. Findings from a new independent review published on Wednesday mean Valdo Calocane should be retried on the more serious charge, the families told Sarah-Jane Mee. Valdo Calocane, who had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order after killing 19-year-old students Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, and 65-year-old caretaker Ian Coates, before attempting to kill three other people in June 2023.

More crowded US dollar trade ramps up expectations for euro parity
A crowded strong U.S. dollar trade is set to get more bunched up in coming months, with near one-third of currency strategists polled by Reuters now expecting the euro to fall to parity with the dollar or below versus only one-fifth last month. The greenback has been on a rampage since late September, soaring over 7% against a basket of major currencies and hammering the euro down to almost $1.01 on Feb. 3 - just a whisker away from parity, a milestone last hit in November 2022. Recent data from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission also showed swathes of speculators piling on "bullish" dollar trade, stretching net-long bets to a near-decade high last month.

Middle East latest: Palestinians say Trump's proposal for Gaza violates international law
Palestinians, their allies and other nations reacted strongly to President Donald Trump’s proposal that the United States “take over” the Gaza Strip and permanently resettle its residents. Trump’s suggestion came at a White House news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who smiled several times as the president detailed a plan to build new settlements for Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip, and for the U.S. to take “ownership” in redeveloping the war-torn territory into “the Riviera of the Middle East.” “The U.S. will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too,” Trump said.
