Christine McGuinness' father overcomes 40-year heroin addiction
Christine McGuinness' father has overcome a 40-year heroin addiction.
The 35-year-old model shared a video on Instagram where she revealed her dad Johnny has spent decades battling an addiction to the narcotic and she feared he would die many times over the years.
However, she explained that her father is now in recovery and is the "happiest and healthiest" she has ever seen him.
Christine wrote: "Trigger warning. For all the times Ive said what I thought was our last ‘goodbye’ Today was the best Hello.
"My dad is the happiest and healthiest I’ve ever seen him, my dad is off heroin. I never thought I’d say those words.
"If you love someone in recovery, never lose hope, its never too late. My dad is 62, he’s been an addict for 4 decades and now he’s a big stong 16st man!
"Dad, I am so proud of you (sic)."
Christine shared a number of images showing her father when he was extremely skinny as he battled his addiction and other photos of him looking much healthier in recent times.
Her estranged husband Paddy McGuinness commented: "His belly is everything! Good lad J" and she responded with a heart emoji.
Close pal Vicky Pattison wrote: "Love you and your dad so much."
Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes said: "Feel your happiness and pride Christine. Well done Dad."
And, 'Coronation Street' and 'Hollyoaks' actress Stephanie Davis, who has struggled with alcohol addiction in the past, wrote: "So amazing to see this! What a gift recovery is! made me emotional, having this illness is the worst thing to battle and go through and so many are tragically took by this disease. Miracles do happen. so so happy for you and your amazing dad! Thannk god for the 12 steps and fellowship."
