San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is parting ways with his final piece of North Carolina real estate. The former Carolina Panther has listed his Lake Norman mansion for $12.5 million. He bought the estate, known as “The Grand Lac Chateau,” in 2020 for $7.5 million, setting the record as the highest resale ever recorded in the Greater Charlotte Metro through Canopy MLS. The Panthers traded him to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for four draft picks in 2022.

“It was such a difficult decision to have to sell this house, but because I’m in the Bay now, I am never there,” he said in an email to the Wall Street Journal. “It pains me letting them go, but that’s life I guess.” McCaffrey also listed his Charlotte condo last year for $3 million.

Built by JJ Barja, the manse is situated on an expansive plot in excess of eight acres. Visitors are greeted with a tree-lined driveway leading up to the entrance. The dwelling’s interior covers about 11,800 square feet and features oak hardwood floors throughout. Upon entrance, an airy grand foyer opens to a 60-foot turret ceiling. The six-bedroom home boasts a primary suite with a two-story closet and a screened-in terrace.

On the main level, there’s a double-sided fireplace that rests in the vaulted great room, as well as a wood-paneled study, a formal dining room, a scullery, a butler’s pantry, and a kitchen filled with top-of-the-line appliances. Each room offers panoramic views of the surrounding natural landscape, including 500 feet of lake frontage. The lower level of the abode is set up for entertaining, with a stone wine cellar, a sound-proofed home theater, a music room, a sports lounge, a gym, and a bar room that opens up to the outdoor pool area.

A private one-bedroom guesthouse is located above a three-car garage, which is connected to the main house by a porte-cochère. McCaffrey converted the three-car garage under the guesthouse into a larger second gym, filled with workout equipment he used to train during the season. The equipment in this gym is up for negotiation in the sale.

Outdoor amenities include a saltwater pool with a spa, a fire pit, a kitchen off the second level, and an additional grill area off the first level. The lake is accessible via a paved pathway. McCaffrey’s boat (named “Olivia” after his fiancée, 2012 Miss Universe Olivia Culpo), a side-by-side Wildcat ATV, a jet ski, and a golf cart are included in the sale.
