It's not unusual for us to quite literally gasp upon seeing haute couture designs make their way down the runway. These pieces are handcrafted, elaborate yet intricate at the same time, and we can only imagine how much effort went into making them. But quantifying it with numbers — 850 hours, for instance — really puts things into perspective. That's actually how long it took for a team of eight people to make just one — one! — tulle dress from Christian Dior's Spring 2022 haute couture collection, which, yes, included 64 looks in total.

Umm ... wow.

Of course, all that hard work wasn't for nothing. Even if, at first glance, someone may view the elegant, floor-length dresses or structured coats as easy, breezy pieces, the craftsmanship and expertise is obvious upon closer inspection — which was the overall goal of for Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri.

"A symbol of the atelier's original excellence, embroidery is not just a decorative detail," read an email from the fashion house. "It gives fabric its structure, its architecture."

The focus was on how much effort and teamwork it took to make these gorgeous clothes come to life, and the photos ahead prove that the process is truly an art form.
