Marvel star Chris Hemsworth has teased the upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa, admitting it has been a dream come true for him.

The Thor actor is taking on a yet-to-be-disclosed role in the new movie, appearing opposite The Queen's Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays the younger incarnation of the Charlize Theron character, and Watchmen actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

"It is a huge honour," Hemsworth told a press conference. "A lot of pressure, but exciting pressure that is certainly motivating."

He added: "It really is, out of everything I've done, the biggest pinch-myself moment, because I've grown up watching it and it's so iconic."

Director George Miller also teased a bit on what to expect from Furiosa, explaining that it takes place over a number of years.

"I didn't set out to make a big, epic movie," he said. "It's a story I wanted to tell, but as it turns out, it's just got a lot of different scenes.

"The one thing I can say about it, Fury Road... within the film, happened over three days and two nights. This is a saga, happens over many years. So, there's a lot of different elements to it."

Hemsworth previously expressed excitement about being involved in Mad Max, revealing that it was a big part of his life growing up and an inspiration for going into acting.

"Pretty damn fired up to be a part of a franchise that meant the world to me as a kid growing up in Australia," he wrote on Instagram last year. "Mad Max was the pinnacle and a huge reason why I got into the business of telling stories.

"The fact that I'll have the [honour] of not only being directed by its original visionary in George Miller but also take part in Furiosa's origin story is incredibly exciting. Huge respect to George, Mel, Charlize, Tom and all the cast and crew who helped build this epic world.

"I'll do my best to continue the tradition of cinematic badassery."

Mad Max: Fury Road is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
