Chris Hemsworth lines up role in Transformers / GI Joe crossover movie

Chris Hemsworth is lining up a role in a Transformers/GI Joe crossover film based on the Hasbro line of toys.

The star had already joined the Transformers franchise earlier this year for Transformers One, an animated film that tells the origin story of Optimus Prime (Hemsworth) and Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry).

With the film set to release in September, Deadline is now reporting that Hemsworth could have a greater role in the franchise, with the star set to feature in a crossover event between the two franchises.

With the project still in its infancy, details are currently scarce and will likely not be finalised until Transformers One has been released, so it remains to be seen how concrete the current proposals are.

Whilst there is still a few months until Transformers One, Hemsworth can currently be seen in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road. The film serves as an origin story for Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy), who is initially captured by Hemsworth’s evil Dr Dementus.

In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Hemsworth praised his co-star for her “unique” take on the character, who was originally played by Charlize Theron in Fury Road.

“She turned up in the mindset and headspace with the enthusiasm and passion to craft something that wasn't a kind of mimic, but was her own take on the character. The two characters are in both very different points of their life and very different parts – one is mythologised and one is in the building of it

“Anya was just incredible,” he began. “I don't think there are many people on the planet that can tell that amount of story with that amount of depth and nuance with subtlety and a look. She did an amazing job, made it her own. I really think in a beautiful way, the two performances complement each other so well.”

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is in cinemas now. Transformers One is scheduled to be released on September 20.
