Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans' romantic comedy Materialists has received an exciting update to do with its distribution.

The film, which is from Past Lives director Celine Song, is reportedly in talks with A-Listers Pascal (The Last of Us), Evans (Captain America) and Madame Web's Dakota Johnson to star.

Despite the film not yet nailing any castings down, though, Deadline has reported that Sony Pictures has taken control of international distribution, excluding Russia, China and Japan. A24 will handle the U.S. release.

Official plot details have not yet been released, but Deadline has written the film, "deals with a professional matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man but still harbours feelings for the broke actor-waiter she left behind."

Materialists marks Song's second collaboration with A24 following Past Lives. The director's debut movie is nominated for Best Picture at next month's Oscars and Song is also nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

It starred Russian Doll's Greta Lee as Nora Moon and Teo Yoo as Hae Sung, childhood friends who are ripped apart when Nora's family moves away; the pair later reunites and is forced to reckon with their shared past.

Johnson's most recent flick, Madame Web, has been released to critical and commercial panning, joining review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes' list of worst superhero films of all time.

The film stars Johnson as psychic paramedic Cassandra Webb, alongside Julia (Sydney Sweeney), Anya (Isabela Merced) and Mattie (Celeste O'Connor).

Reviews have slated the superhero movie, with The Hollywood Reporter calling it "an airless and stilted endeavour driven by a mechanical screenplay," and Screen Rant writing:"With an awful script and not a single ounce of charm among the star-studded cast, Madame Web feels like little more than a Spider-Man movie knockoff."

Past Lives is available to stream on Netflix.

Madame Web is out now in cinemas.
