Chris Evans: Captain America Is Lovelorn

Steve Rogers hasn’t really had time to have a love life. Before he became Captain America he was too dorky to seduce, while since then he’s just been focused on saving the world.

Plus, he was frozen for several decades, which meant that the one-true love he did have, Penny Carter, was around 70-years older than him by the time he’d defrosted. Sure, he snuck a kiss with Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) in ‘Winter Soldier’, but that didn’t seem to requite his passion.

Rather than trying to lie and explain that Captain America had a fabricated holiday romance with a busty German model, Chris Evans has instead admitted that the shield wielding hero is lovelorn.

Discussing his recent directorial debut ‘Before We Go’, which sees Evans romancing Alice Eve, the actor admitted that he was attracted to the project because of its more tender side.

“Captain America, this is not a guy who knows what love feels like,” Evans explained to USA Today. “He wants it, he thinks about it, he knows there’s something missing, but it’s not that he’s ever tasted it.”

Evans added, “I’m out there throwing that shield and knocking people out at least a few times every couple of years, so when I have some down time, that’s not exactly what I’m looking to keep doing.”

There’s a chance that Captain America might find himself on the hunt for love in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ though. That’s because Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), who is the niece of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Rogers’ former beau from the 1940s, is on his side in the eagerly anticipated blockbuster.

However, since Rogers will have his hands pretty full trying to take down Iron Man, The Vision, et al, there might not actually be time for him to take Sharon Carter out for a candle-lit meal. Instead it might just have to be quick kiss and a fumble during a battle scene.

We’ll learn about his seduction prowess when ‘Captain America: Civil War’ finally hits screens on May 6, 2016.
