CHP continues investigation of pedestrian who died after being hit by car in North Auburn

A man in his 30s died after he was hit by a car while walking along a road in North Auburn, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to the fatal incident about 10:10 a.m. Friday on Bell Road near the Crossroads Shopping Center.

A woman in her 20s was driving west on Bell Road when the car hit a pedestrian who had been walking east on the shoulder, according to CHP Officer Athena Ruiz.

As of Sunday, Ruiz said, the crash was still under investigation, including whether the woman drifted onto the shoulder or the man went onto the road.

Officers do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a role, Ruiz said.

The Placer County Coroner’s Office has not released the man’s name but Ruiz said he is believed to be an unhoused man in his 30s.

It would be the second fatal incident involving an unhoused resident in recent days in the greater Sacramento area. Anthony Ray Dangerfield, 33, of Elk Grove, was killed Nov. 23 on Interstate 5 near downtown Sacramento.
