Chip Gaines knows the old adage is true: happy wife (and goats), happy life!

The Fixer Upper star, 49, shared a video on Instagram of him making use of the massive bouquet of roses he'd gifted to his wife Joanna Gaines for Valentine's Day, now past their prime a little over a week after the holiday.

“I’ve got a strict policy around the farm, especially around Valentine’s Day” he explains in the selfie video shared to Instagram on Thursday.

Panning his camera to a large bunch of pink roses, Chip shares that his theory on the holiday marked for lovers is to “go big, or go home.”

But now that Valentine’s Day has passed, where do the wilting flowers go?

According to Chip, “Once the queen Joanna is through enjoying them,” it’s their goats' turn.

The clip shows the handyman grabbing the flowers and tossing them on the ground. “I would say nothing goes to waste around here,” he adds before calling his group of goats to feast on the flowers.

The couple's Christmas trees also go to the goats when they're done with them.

The flowers aren't the only thing sporting a little damage in the video.

“Sorry about my face, it looks a little worse than it is,” Chip says, while showing some healing cuts on his cheek and jaw. While Chip didn’t tell viewers how he ended up with this particular injury fans have seen him rack up plenty of bruises while goofing around on construction sites in many past seasons of Fixer Upper.

Meanwhile, Chip added that they were “evolving” into a new phase.

“It’s the second part of our marriage."

The couple tied the knot in 2003 and share five kids together: Drake, 19, Ella, 17, Duke, 15, Emmie, 14, and Crew, 5.

Since leaving HGTV when they ended their show in 2018, the couple has been pretty busy with new endeavors.

Chip and Joanna have launched a podcast network, announced a variety of Magnolia reality shows, completed work on Hotel 1928 in Waco, Texas, and debuted Fixer Upper: The Hotel — a new limited series about the venture, airing on Max and Magnolia Network.

Through it all, they continue to bring out the best in each other.

“I think that’s the beauty of relationships in general. If Chip weren’t my partner, I would probably still be in the corner,” Joanna told PEOPLE in November. “From the moment I met him, he’s always experienced change in a positive way. Even if it was negative, it was, ‘All right. What do we do next?’”
