Amazon (AMZN) reports fourth quarter results after the bell on Thursday. CFRA Research senior equity research analyst Arun Sundaram joins Catalysts with Seana Smith and Madison Mills to discuss what to watch when the tech giant releases earnings. "The setup is positive for Amazon," Sundaram explains."Their e-commerce business should have done really well, given that all indications were that we had a strong holiday season, especially for e-commerce retailers ... I'm also not worried about the bottom line either." "Investors tend to focus more on [Amazon Web Services] AWS and their cloud business," the analyst says, noting that "19% AWS growth ... would represent stable growth from Q3 and Q2 of 2024," which would be especially positive given the misses seen in Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) and Microsoft's (MSFT) respective cloud segments. Sundaram notes that another risk to Amazon's post-earnings stock reaction is if the company announces higher-than-expected capital spending. "If CapEx is higher than consensus especially, then it could lead to a sell-off like we saw with Microsoft and Google."
