Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes has a bruised foot. Here’s what he said about playing Sunday

The Chiefs appear relatively healthy for Week 14.

Chiefs coach Andy Reid said “everybody” will practice Wednesday in some capacity ahead of Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos at Empower Field at Mile High.

And the list of participating players includes quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who dealt with a foot injury late in Week 13’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

“It’s felt good,” Mahomes said. “You always deal with bruises and little things in the NFL season.

“And so luckily for me it’s just a bruise and something I can just kind of bounce back from and be out there and practice and keep getting better like we’re trying to do.”

Mahomes’ presence on the practice field isn’t the only good news for the Chiefs.

Wide receiver Kadarius Toney is expected to practice after missing two straight games with a hamstring injury. But the Chiefs don’t feel a need to push his activity level.

“Let him get out there and work a little bit and we’ll just see how he does,” Reid said. “We’re not going to bring him back and have him hurt it again. That’s not what we’re looking at; just see what he can do.”

Toney’s potential return to action will especially help on special teams, where the Chiefs have relied on wide receiver Justin Watson to handle punt return duties during Toney’s absence.

Chiefs special teams coordinator Dave Toub said last week that Toney is the primary punt returner when healthy.

Meanwhile, left guard Joe Thuney, who has missed two straight games with an ankle injury, is expected to practice. Thuney put in three full practices last week before being downgraded to questionable on Saturday, and then the Chiefs listed him as inactive against Cincinnati.

“His thing was getting that final push, that you get off of it,” Reid said of Thuney’s ankle injury. “It’s day-to-day. He feels better this week than he did last week.”

Backup guard/center Nick Allegretti started at left guard in place of Tuney the past two games.

The Chiefs later in the afternoon attached the following practice designations:
