Frank Lampard has been sacked by Roman Abramovich after a slump in form saw the club legend oversee a drop from first to ninth in the Premier League.

Lampard was appointed in the summer of 2019 after an impressive rookie season in charge at Derby, signing a three-year deal. He guided the Blues to a top-four finish and the FA Cup Final in his first season.

The former midfielder lasted a little over half of his contract, with Sunday’s 3-1 win over Luton in the FA Cup his final game in charge.

Having sanctioned a stunning summer of spending, to the tune of around £220million, Abramovich’s patience has run out following a run of five defeats in eight league games.

Thomas Tuchel, sacked by Paris Saint-Germain late last year, is now expected to be appointed.
