Chef José Andrés is no stranger to philanthropic efforts and he's continuing to offer support to communities in need as the pandemic persists. Most recently, he announced that he's giving out gift cards to his restaurants to individuals in the Washington, D.C. area who get vaccinated.

José announced the giveaway on his Twitter account last week saying, "Ok! We want everyone vaccinated! Starting tomorrow, until we reach 70% of total population anyone that comes with vaccine papers, that proves that has been vaccinated will get $50 gift certificate for any of @thinkfoodgroup restaurants in the @washingtondc area."

The giveaway started on May 8 and will run until 70 percent of the D.C. population is vaccinated. Each gift card can be used at any of José's restaurants in the area which include Jaleo DC, Jaleo Crystal City, Oyamel, Zaytinya, and China Chilcano. These restaurants offer Mexican, Mediterranean, Peruvian, and Spanish fare. Gift cards will be valid for 30 days after they're issued at any of those spots.

This is only a small part of what José Andrés has done to help throughout the pandemic. His organization World Central Kitchen has been distributing fresh meals to communities in need like seniors who are unable to leave their homes. As part of these efforts, World Central Kitchen partners with restaurants to provide work for their staff who may otherwise be unable to because of restaurant closures.
