Paul Sinha is best known for thwarting people's quizzing dreams on The Chase, but what he really loves to do is make them laugh.

Paul – also known as The Sinnerman – has long dabbled in comedy, and has now admitted that if he had to choose between continuing on The Chase and pursuing a stand-up career, he'd opt for the latter.

While appearing on The Russell Howard Hour yesterday (September 23), Paul reflected on the success of The Chase. "I'm part of a show that, luckily for me, is doing very well and is very popular," he said.

"I didn't know when I joined the show the degree that my life would be turned upside down."

That doesn't mean Paul is tied to the gameshow forever, though. "If I had to choose it would be stand-up," he continued, "because at the end of the day The Chase will go as long as it can, but it's TV and TV is a finite thing...

"Stand-up is what I really love and want to be doing for as long as humanly possible. I mean, I love both, but if I had to pick one it would be stand-up."

The Sinnerman isn't the only star of The Chase contemplating a move away from the series in the future, as host Bradley Walsh recently hinted at his retirement.

Speaking back in July, Bradley opened up about his ongoing telly work. "You know what, in a couple of years' time I won't have to do any of it," he mused. "I'll be retired and that'll be it."

The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV.
