Tuesday’s Rewind: No. 5 Cannon rolls past Covenant Day. The night’s scores, stars

Cannon School is on a serious roll.

The Cougars, who rose five spots to No. 5 in the Sweet 16 this week, beat CISAA rival Covenant Day 79-60 Tuesday night. The reigning large-class private school state champions led 44-29 at halftime and 61-36 after three quarters.

Cannon (17-4, 3-0 CISAA) got 26 points from Jarvis Moss, 21 points from DJ Nix and 13 from Elijah Ormiston. Covenant Day (5-6, 0-2) got 19 from Aden Holloway and 17 from Marcus Brown.

Tuesday’s #BIG5 Boys Top Performers

AJ Cook, Weddington: junior guard hit a school-record seven 3-point shots in a 89-28 win over Marvin Ridge. Cook finished with 25 points, six rebounds and four steals.

Zach Herman, Alexander Central: 24 points, 10 rebounds in a 78-48 win over Freedom. Herman made 10-of-10 field goals and 4-of-4 free throw attempts.

Steven Lebau, Christ The King: 24 points, nine rebounds, five assists in a 80-53 winover Cherryville. Teammate Andrew Stanley (13 points, 16 rebounds) had a strong game.

Cole Seagle, Jack Carter, North Lincoln: Combined for 37 points in a 65-58 win over Newton-Conover. Seagle had 19 points, four assists, two steals. Carter had 18 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Wesley Tubbs III, Northside Christian: team-high 21 points as Northside avoided an upset at SouthLake Christian, winning 61-60.
