Which Charlotte-area counties grew the fastest in 2022? Here’s what census data says

Nearly every county in the Charlotte area added residents over the last year, but recently-released census data shows that two counties experienced significant population growth after the pandemic.

Lancaster County, South Carolina, grew by 4.03% from July 2021-July 2022, to a population of 104,577, according to the data. Lincoln County grew by 3.59% over the same period, adding more than 3,200 residents.

Chester County, South Carolina, which lost 166 residents, was the only county in the area that saw a decline in population.

Mecklenburg grew by 1.74% over the last year and now has a population of 1.145 million, making it the second-largest county in North Carolina behind Wake.

Here is a breakdown of population growth in Charlotte-area counties over the last year:

Brunswick County saw a 5.7% increase in population, making it the fastest-growing county in the state, and the seventh-fastest-growing county in the country, according to the data.

Half of the top 10 fastest-growing counties in the country were in Texas, census data shows.
