According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 36-year-old ‘Magic Mike’ star has just joined Disney’s ‘Splash’ remake… as the scaly, fish-tailed star.

“Disney is moving forward on a remake of the 1984 film Splash with an interesting twist: Channing Tatum will star as the mermaid character that was played by Daryl Hannah.”

Of course, the original ‘Splash’ starred Daryl Hannah as Madison – a mermaid who ends up coming ashore in order to find Allen Bauer (played by Tom Hanks) who she met many years earlier.

Will the remake follow a similar story? At the moment, details remain firmly under wraps… but it’s likely we’ll be getting the familiar fish-out-of-water story which made the original so popular.

But who will be playing Tom Hanks’ role in the upcoming remake?

“Jillian Bell also will star in the new take on the 1984 film,” they revealed. “[She] will play the character originally played by Tom Hanks.”

Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell have previously worked together on ’22 Jump Street’… but Bell has also appeared in the likes of ‘Bridesmaids’, ‘Goosebumps’ and even an episode of ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’.

So there we have it – ‘Splash’ is a gender-flipped twist on the 1984 classic.

Starring Channing Tatum.

Could this film get any more awesome?

“Imagine’s Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will produce along with Tatum, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran via his Free Association banner. Anna Culp will executive produce.”

Marja-Lewis Ryan will reportedly write the script.

But who will direct this weirdly-enticing oddity?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see… but could we find Ron Howard jumping back into the director’s chair after helming the original movie?

That would be incredible.
