Friday’s boys rewind: Chambers gets some payback, upsets No. 4 North Meck on the road

In round two of North Meck vs Chambers rivalry, the Cougars stifled the high powered Viking’ offense en route to a 67-52 win. This win avenged North Meck’s thrilling overtime road win last month and also gives the Cougars a chance to win the Queen City 3A/4A conference title as well.

“It (the win) means a lot,” Head Coach Brian Frasier said after the game. “I think our kids laid it all on the line. It means a lot for our kids to be able to go back to the lab and work to get the win.”

Both the Vikings and the Cougars have each dropped just one game in conference play, and with just two games left, the conference crown is still up for grabs.

And barring any upsets in the conference tournament in two weeks, these rivals could play for a third time in the tournament final. So getting momentum from this win is something coach Frasier felt was important.

“I think that this is big for our guys to know that they deserve to be at the top,” Frasier said. “We’ve played some tough competition, so it means that they deserve to be at the top of the rankings just like everybody else.”

THREE WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE

Nick Dorn, Chambers: Dorn, who had an off game the first time these two played, was able to turn things around Friday. He was able to knock down a few threes and just get into his offensive flow that he couldn’t find in the first outing against the Vikings.

Isaiah Evans, North Meck: Despite having much tighter defense played on him, Evans was still able to help his team back in the game early in the fourth quarter. He finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds. But well short of the 45 he accounted for the first time.

Marcus Brown, Chambers: The Cougars changed their defensive plan up from the first game against the Vikings. This game, they put Brown on Isaiah Evans and it proved to be extremely effective. He stuck to Evans hip the whole time he was matched up on him forcing him into tough shots.

WORTH MENTIONING

This was the Vikings senior night, and prior to the boys varsity contest, the school honored both girls and boys seniors on the basketball teams and the cheerleaders.

North Meck got into the bonus with approximately 2 minutes to go in the third quarter. That helped the Vikings trim a 19-point lead to nine in the fourth.

WHAT’S NEXT

Each team has just two conference games remaining before the QC 3A/4A tournament. With the conference crown still up for grabs, each game is vital.
