A top Hamas political official told The Associated Press the Islamic militant group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders. The suggestion that Hamas would disarm appeared to be a significant concession by the militant group officially committed to Israel’s destruction. It has vowed to crush Hamas following the deadly Oct. 7 attacks that triggered the war, and its current leadership is adamantly opposed to the creation of a Palestinian state on lands Israel captured in the 1967 Mideast war.

China stands by economic data, says defence spending 'transparent'
China defended the veracity of its economic numbers and asserted its military spending was "transparent and reasonable", while dismissing as "typical double standards" comments made this week by the head of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command. Axiata, Sinar Mas closer to $3.5 billion telco merger in Indonesia, Bloomberg says
The companies plan to merge their Indonesian units, PT XL Axiata and PT Smartfren, and are currently discussing the structure of a deal which could involve a mix of cash and shares, Bloomberg News said on Thursday. A non-binding agreement may be reached in the coming months, allowing the companies to continue negotiations and carry out due diligence, the report said, adding that there was no guarantee that a deal would go through.

Hawaiian Electric tells customers on Hawaii Island to resume normal power usage
Hawaiian Electric on Wednesday told customers to resume using electricity a normal, ending a call to conserve power on Hawaii Island after its generation capacity dropped due to some units going out of service. These units have a combined production capacity of up to 53 megawatts (MW), which could account for nearly one-third of Hawaii Island's typical peak demand of 180 MW. Hawaiian Electric and independent power producer Hamakua Energy continue to troubleshoot and repair the generating units that are out of service, it said.
