Celebs Go Dating kicked off the new season with a surprise for its six famous participants.

The dating show's tenth season debuted on E4 tonight (January 17) and threw its daters into the mix straight away.

Host Tom Read Wilson announced that this season's stars – Made in Chelsea's Miles Nazaire, TOWIE's Chloe Brockett, The Apprentice's Ryan-Mark Parsons, Married at First Sight's Nikita Jasmine, former 5ive member Abz Love and Gladiators presenter Ulrika Jonsson – were about to go on blind dates.

Forget a relaxed mixer event, the celebs were expected to charm their blind dates while they were being closely watched by agents Anna Williamson and Paul Carrick Brunson. Needless to say, things got awkward.

Miles' poor attempts to charm his date Tilly included telling her she was not his usual type and deflecting all of her questions.

Elsewhere, Ryan-Mark made some off-hand comments about Wales to, ahem, Welsh drama teacher Dan, who was less than impressed.

Chloe also came across as particularly closed off to her date Brahmdeo, who was really trying to have a nice time.

Meanwhile, Ulrika's date Tal bored her to death with talk on nicknames and his inability to pop a cork, despite having promised to be good at it.

On a similar note, Abz put off his date Sacha thanks to his chaotic conversation skills: from octopi being his spirit animal to having spotted aliens, the rapper earned a "Babe, are you okay?" that must've hurt his pride a little.

Nikita was the only one who seemed to have a decent time with her date, tattoo artist and crude jokes cracker Lee.

To make it all worse, the celebrities were given face-to-face feedback at the end of their mostly terrible dates.

While Chloe scored a six, Miles and Ryan-Mark failed with a five and a three respectively. To find out how the other three celebs did, fans will have to tune in tomorrow – so long as they can put up with some second-hand embarrassment.

Celebs Go Dating airs weekdays at 9pm on E4.
