Celebrating the Fourth of July on the lake? Where to rent boats in the Charlotte area

The Fourth of July is approaching, which means it’s almost time for food, fireworks and fun on the water.

If you don’t own a boat, or know someone who has one, you’re in luck. There are plenty of places to rent boats on Lake Norman and Lake Wylie, both a short drive away from Charlotte.

Most rental services offer pontoon or tritoon boats, which can accommodate around eight people. You can even bring your pet along for the ride at some places.

Rates vary by location and there may be additional fees for the holiday weekend. Boats can usually be rented for a half-day, full day or full weekend.

Some rental services require at least one person on board to have a North Carolina boating license. To obtain a boating license, you have to take a National Associations of State Boating Law Administrators-approved boating education course. Be sure to check each website and make sure you are eligible to rent.
