Carowinds reopens for ‘Welcome Back Weekend’ May 15 and 16 after missed 2020 season

Carowinds will host “Welcome Back Weekend” on May 15 and 16 from noon until 6 p.m.

The park did not open for its 2020 season due to COVID-19, but announced in January that it would reopen for 2021.

The event will be open to new and old season passholders, who will get to explore the park before it reopens to the general public, a press release said. The park is “pulling out all the stops,” to offer a unique experience for guests.

The park’s official reopening day is May 22.

Tickets will go on sale on April 29, the press release said.

The Welcome Back Event will include live entertainment, appearances by Snoopy and the PEANUTS gang, sweet and savory treats, merchandise deals, and of course, the park’s 57 rides and attractions, the press release said.

Season passes are available online through the Carowinds website.

Season passes must be active to attend this event. To activate a season pass, members can drive through the toll plaza at Carowinds on May 1 and May 8 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., or activate online on the Carowinds website.

Safety measures

At check in, at least one member of your party must have the park mobile app on their phone, according to Carowind’s safety protocols.

Temperature checks will be performed, and hand sanitization stations have been added throughout the park.

Face coverings will be required while inside the park at all times. “Face coverings should completely cover the nose and mouth, and not have exhalation valves or vents, which allows virus particles to escape. All guests age 2 and older are required to wear a face covering,” the Carowind’s website says.

Guests can remove masks when dining at a table or bench.
